Initial Project Idea

A digital poster that locates my project idea in a number of contexts.

5 similar things to what I am thinking about – both direct and indirect associations, name them, show their covers, or an image from them, and saying ‘my project will be like this’

4 sources of inspiration (music, poetry, film, game, novel) that are in play when i think about this idea.

3 ‘heroes’ who I associate with the work you are doing.
2 ‘theories’ that are of relevance.

1 ‘issue’ that I am aware of that will be involved in the making (skills, knowledge, resources and etc).

    - since online actions are about selling secondhand goods

4. bottom of the urban pyramid
    - should i target low income urban consumer?

Sketching a Project Proposal

The slides below listed the key points that I've extracted from the book 'How to Research 4th edition' by Lorrain Blaxter, Christina Hughes, and Malcom Tight.

My reason of why am i doing this project will be #3 - to enhance my employment prospects so i wish that this project will be my best portfolio work. Another reason is #4 - to acquire new skills such as marketing strategies, building an E-commerce website (probably include bidding system) using computer software or program such as HTML5 and Cloud Computing.

My general ideas is to build a Go Green E-commerce website. The issue i am addressing is mandatory recycling laws and tougher regulations on the disposal of electronic trash which had been mentioned by trendwatching.com, read the article here. While the context of my final project will be upcycling which is based on “Go Green” concept.

I would like to investigate the demographic of my target audience. I will relate this research with my degree essay which aimed to discover possible online consumer demographic.

My general research question would be e-commerce, online marketing strategies, online shopping culture, online consumer characteristic and behaviors, materialism and consumerism theories, also the upcycling idea.

Difference Between Good Design and Great Design

The slide below (Great Design = Bringing it All Together) listed the key points that I've extracted from an online article by Joshua Johnson. read the article here

Case study: Kaleidoscope website

A great design is attractive, has amazing colours and graphics, use classy typography and able to capture the attention of people who would otherwise be uninterested to look at your thought and idea.

A great design is to present a lot of information from the client in an attractive way to entice the customer to make a purchase.

A great design is one that works which enable the user to locate information they want without getting confused, misdirected or frustrated.

What Can a Multimedia Design Project Be?

The two slides below (Key Features of Multimedia Design Project & Kinds of Multimedia Design Works) listed the key points that I've extracted from lecturer note.

Example of the video work that i can think of will be:
1, my senior's work - Yap Ah Loy (live comments by audience displaying throughout the video)
2. a YouTube video - Life In A Day (users generated movie) watch the video here

An interesting example of sampling the environment that i can give is Pinkie Colour Forecast watch the video here

While my project will be #10 - commercial practices kind of work.

Best commercial practice refers to the methods, processes, procedures, systems, and/or usage that is commonly implemented in the business world and that is generally agreed to have produced the most satisfactory or desirable results on a consistent basis.
